My Social Experiment in the Cuckold Dynamic

In July 2022, I posted a cuckold story in Literotica titled Eggs and Cream. As with most of my stories, I approached people who successfully live that genre for content and creation feedback before publication. I wanted a respectful depiction of a cuckold dynamic, but posting it on such a broadly read open platform was also a bit of a cuckold dynamic social experiment.

Proofreaders from the lifestyle gave the story high marks for depicting the humane, loving elements that are critical for people in alternative lifestyles to succeed. I’m so impressed by how deeply connected and solidly grounded these people are. I find it hilarious to hear of men who want to “talk my wife into hotwifing, cuckolding, etc.”, as if the women were property to be exploited without consent. If the relationship isn’t overtly open to discussion and rock solid ahead of time, the twist will probably fail.

The story tags were extremely clear: cuckold, cuckolding, creampie, bull, loving couple, wife, cumswapping, hotwife, submission. There’s no room for misinterpretation here. But when it came time to post the story, I chose to try a social experiment. I placed it under the Loving Wives category, and not Erotic Coupling, to see if the general reaction to this dynamic would meet my expectations. I’m hear to say that the readers did not disappoint.

The Response? Predictable.

The story blew up relative to my other postings, with over 16,000 reads in the first 24 hours. Quite a few for a nobody in eritoc writing. Nineteen readers marked it as a favorite, and those who commented praised its focus on the relationship more than the shock value writers in this genre may lean on.

It garnered 32 comments and a 2.7 out of 5 star rating. The start rating level was low for stories on Literotica, where anything below a 4 is probably average at best. 23 of those comments spewed disgust and hate about the content. Of the 9 that didn’t, only one took the “don’t yuck on someone else’s yum” position, while the other 8 loved it.

The response polarity met my expectations. But make no mistake: I didn’t post it for shock value. I was hoping for consideration and feedback by those who could take a moment to consider the perspective. To me, Literotica can be a good testing ground for social dynamics.

The Cuckold Dynamic

Cuckolding, and the complimentary genres of hotwifing and swinging, have been among the most sought after erotica themes this century. What’s the generic difference when it’s referring to a male-female relationship? In hotwifing, the male controls the wife’s involvement for his pleasure. Many times she derives satisfaction as well, but it’s primarily for his benefit. Swinging centers around mutual decision making and satisfaction within the boundaries the pair has established.

Cuckolding is where the female controls their sex lives, having sex with whomever and whenever she desires, while the male remains faithful to her. He may or may not be involved to various degrees.

Like everything in life, infinite variations exist. But the psychologists I’ve connected with all agree that a mutual, highly communicative, agreed upon progression is necessary for any chance of success.

The Misunderstood Cuckold Dynamic

Historically, cuckolding content has been designed for the male gaze, the patriarchal porn industry’s version, and therefore becomes some people’s truth. The cuck is a worthless, weak man with no conviction. The other male, often a bull, and the wife humiliate and degrade him endlessly.

While there are people that like this dynamic, my research and discussions have shown the majority that can successfully live in this lifestyle, and related alternative lifestyles like hot wifing, polyamory and swinging, are quite the opposite. The couples have a deep connection with each other, and communicate far better and more meaningfully than most.

The Belgian psychologist Esther Perel captured it well by pointing out that every person has two core conflicting needs: safety & security, and change & adventure. Every person and couple addresses those in their own unique way. Some people find, nurture and sustain that ebb and flow, while some live in quiet desperation while lacking adequate levels of either.

Others fulfill this need by cheating. It’s why the most common reasons for divorce are cheating and money.

Why Risk the Backlash?

So, if the story was going to create such a reaction, why post it? Why subject myself to the vitriol it predictably created? Readers can be fickle, and a cuckold dynamic social experiment may destroy what little audience I have.

It’s because it’s a real genre and a highly sought-after topic. Because my goal in writing erotica has been attempting to accurately represent various genres, and some of the unique twists that lay within them. And, frankly, to challenge myself. My published erotica ranges from classic male-female singles and couples to lesbian, threesome, and now cuckolding stories. Over time, I’ll set aside genres I simply don’t write about very well. But for now it’s improving my overall abilities, and I view that as a win.

To the haters? The comments centered around disgust for the genre and the story specifics. That a loving couple or spouse could NEVER act this way. A genre author claimed that the early barrage of hate posts and 1-Star ratings were from a known single troll with multiple user names. I don’t have the wherewithal to determine that, but the same is possible (but not likely) for positive comments, so let’s put that aside.

More pointedly, the story tags were clear, so why did the haters read it in the first place? They may have indulged without considering the story tags, or because I had placed it into the Loving Wives category and they have different thresholds of what that could mean. Literotica itself defines Loving Wife Stories as “Married extra-marital fun: swinging, sharing and more.” This certainly fit under that umbrella.

UPDATE: As of 1/3/23, the story has garnered over 35,000 reads. The 2.7 average start ranking is up to 3.4, which means the latter half of reviews have been ~4.1. The negative comments stopped all together.
